At Kakira we constantly improve and refine our farming and production processes to enhance efficiency and conserve the environment.
The sugar making process yields about 74,000 tonnes of molasses as a by-product, and in the spirit of continuous improvement and zero waste, KSL diversified into distilling in 2016. The state-of-the-art Kakira Distillery has a capacity of 20 million litres per annum of either anhydrous 99.8% bio-fuel ethanol or 96.4% purity extra neutral alcohol (ENA). Anhydrous biofuel ethanol can be easily blended with petrol for use as an engine fuel for automobiles, which is good for the environment as it not only reduces fossil fuel consumption but also results in lower carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emissions. Our production focus is currently on ENA, as we eagerly anticipate legislation that will operationalise the use of anhydrous biofuel ethanol in Uganda.
