Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) is Uganda’s leading producer of sugar, accounting for half the national sugar production. One of the oldest sugar milling companies in the country, Kakira crushes over two million tonnes of cane per year to produce sugar and downstream products.

In addition to growing sugarcane on its own estate, KSL also buys sugarcane from outgrower farmers who cultivate cane on 25,000 hectares of their own land.

We use bagasse – the residue from cane crushing – to generate environmentally friendly electric power. KSL currently supplies up to 32 MW of power to Uganda’s national grid.
