When Muljibhai Madhvani started his business some 75 years ago he never forgot the roots of his success. Through philanthropic activities ranging from providing disaster relief, helping the underprivileged, preserving the environment and supporting education throughout Uganda, the tradition of giving back to the community has continued to this day.

Kakira Sugar Works has held the values associated with Corporate Social Responsibility, and by investing in and aiding communities, the company has enhanced its image and reputation, increased awareness of its brands and created loyalty among its customers.

At the Madhvani Group level, the Muljibahai Madhvani Foundation, a Charitable Trust whose primary objective is the maintenance and promotion of Scientific and Technical education for the people of Uganda, empowers Ugandans for a better future with Scholarships worth over Uganda Shillings 500 Million annually.

Scholarship worth USHS. 500 million available for 2009/2010

Healthcare also features in the numerous projects that Kakira is involved in. A children's hospital in memory of Mukesh Madhvani has recently been renovated and donated to the people of Jinja.

Kakira is collaborating very closely with the Joint Clinical Research Centre in a venture with International Aids Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) to carry out an HIV/AIDS vaccine trial at Kakira.

Assisting schools in the District. The latest examples - a Science Laboratory that has been constructed at the Kakira High School, adjacent to the Sugar Estate, the renovation of the library at PMM Girl's school in Jinja, renovating and building facilities at Wairaka Technical College. Over the years, many other schools have also benefited from donations and physical help from Kakira Sugar Works.

Kakira also contributes to the development of Uganda by its substantial contribution to the National Exchequer by way of taxes paid. In the year 2008/2009, the total taxes paid by the company came to over Uganda Shillings 40 Billion (US$ 21 million). Indirectly, through the creation of employment and other activities, Kakira is at the forefront of building Uganda for a better future.
