East African Development Bank Gives KSW US$8.5 Million Loans
The funds will be used to facilitate KSW’s power co-generation expansion.
EADB’s director general, Godfrey Tumusiime, KSW’s chairman Dr. Jack Luyombya and director James Kahoza signed the agreement on Friday at the bank’s head office in Kampala.
Dr. Luyombya said the loans would augment Kakira’s co-generation facilities and help it acquire new power generation equipment and distribution lines to interconnect to the national grid.
“The expanded co-generation project will increase power output from 4.5 Mw to over 14 Mw. When the project is completed, KSW will be self-reliant and supply 6 Mw to the national grid during peak hours,” he said.
Luyombya said they utilise bagasse, a fibrous residue from sugarcane crushing, to generate power for lighting and production in the factory.
